Laini Marisa
Laini Marisa is a
singer/songwriter and an International Recording Artist. She has recently
performed in Kaiserslautern, Germany and recorded in Frankfurt, Germany.
She had the pleasure of touring in Japan and most of the major cities in the
US with the Steve Arrington Band (former lead singer of Funk Band Slave), and
has performed on stage, singing background and opening up for such acts as:
Ronnie Laws, Tom Browne, Marzette Griffith, Dee Alexander, Garland Green with
the Chi-Lites, Gerald Butler, Lil' G of Silk, Frank McComb, The Average White
Band, The Temptations, Musiq Soulchild, and Rachelle Ferrell,
Mikki Howard,
Jodeci and Brian McKnight just to name a few. Laini is Afro-Cuban born
in Chicago, Illinois. Being Afro-Cuban, Laini was musically influenced by Tito
Puentes, and Celia Cruz who were favorite artists of her mother’s growing up,
among many other Latin artists. Other favorite artist influences of hers are:
Chaka Khan, Teena Marie, Natalie Cole,
and Brazilian artist, Rosalia de Souza. Laini has also performed jazz and
created a buzz amongst her listening audiences in appearances all over
Chicago with
Imagine That Jazz Duo, the John Wright Trio, Crosswinds Jazz Band and was
great vocalist in a tribute to the late jazz musician Eldee Young.

Laini has a dance
mastery of Salsa, and Cha-Cha that make her mother proud, and is also proficient
in the styles of Merengue, Bachata, and Cumbia. She
strengthened her skill in these styles by dancing for Latin Street Dance Company
in Chicago, professionally, for a year.
Laini loves all genres of music but is deeply rooted in Bossa Nova,
Brazilian Jazz and Latin Soul. She loves the sultry sexy tones of these styles
of music and when you hear her smooth and sultry voice, you will see that she is
just as comfortable singing a song in Spanish or Portuguese, as she is singing
R&B, and you would agree that the style suits her. But that’s nothing. Laini will perform Rock, House, or
even Blues to change it up and show you what she’s really made of.
Laini was
fortunate enough to do a jingle for the Chicago Bulls that received a lot of
airplay on WGCI, and B96 during the Bulls season and 5th year
championship win. She did this while
singing with R&B Pop group, Avanti.
Laini currently calls Record Family Music Group Publishing home where she
released her first single “Give It To Me” and is working on completing her first
original CD project. Under this publishing company, she is working with
producer, songwriter and engineer, Ron Prince, former guitarist and singer for
the hot blues group, The Kinsey Report and producer, and engineer, B.A. Record,
son of the late but great Eugene Record, original lead singer and songwriter of
the famous Chi-Lites.

Laini is also a strong stage, and musical theater actress. She
has done several short films by local Independent film makers, but her biggest
claim to fame are her roles in Promises, Promises, where she played the lead
(Fran) and Dreamgirls, where she played Lorrell (also a lead character) both
Directed by Kyle T. Miller. Kyle T. Miller realized that she was also a natural
actress and has been a key factor in her love of musical theater.
